Providing Technical Assistance

WED assists Unions, Employers and Other Stakeholders in the Creation of High Road Partnerships by providing a wide variety of technical assistance, including:

  • Identifying and Securing Resources for High Road Partnership Development;
  • Sharing Best Practices in the Creation of High Road Partnerships, Labor-Management Training Partnerships and Apprenticeship Programs;
  • Conducting Industry Needs Assessments;
  • Facilitating problem identification, Trust-Building and Interest-Based Problem Solving, and Developing Benchmarks for Success;
  • Establishing Mentor/Leadership Development Programs and Activities for Union Members;
  • Aiding in the Creation and Registration of Formal Apprenticeship Programs with the US Department of Labor (DOL) and the California Division of Apprenticeship Standards (DAS);
  • Assisting Unions and their Partners in Developing Competitive Proposals for Local and State Workforce Development Funds, such as from the Employment Training Panel (ETP);
  • Providing Training and Support to Central Labor Councils, Building Trades Councils and Labor Representatives on Workforce Development Boards;
  • Informing Union Leaders and Training Directors About Workforce Development Policies and Resources;
  • Working with Local Labor Representatives and Rapid Response System Staff to Assist Workers Facing Layoffs or Trade Act Adjustment (TAA) Assistance.
